Just your pennies will help
reforestation in Florida’s
most
damaged National
and
State Forests. For just $68, your District, Club and
Circle can help to
purchase and
plant trees in Osceola National and
John
Bethea State
Forest which have had over
11,000 acres destroyed by the Okefenokee fires in 2010 and
2011. The US Forest Service is
trying to reforest 250 to 500 acres
per year to replace trees destroyed in these
fires. What
better way to show FFGC’s commitment
to improving
and preserving our
environment.
HOW IT WORKS
At your Circle, Club or District meetings
have
a jar with
the words “Penny Pines” on it. Ask your members
to drop their pennies or loose change
into the jar at each
meeting. When your money accumulates to $68, ask your Treasurer
to mail a check for that
amount
to the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs. A form
to complete and
mail with your check is attached
to this flyer. You may send your
check and
form to FFGC Treasurer, Gina
Jogan, at FFGC Headquarters
at
any time during the year.
Checks will be presented
to the US Forest Service periodically in a lump sum. This will allow
them to order and plant trees in the fall of 2012 and
winter of 2013. Trees
planted
will
be those native to the forest
and area including the
endangered longleaf
pine. You may use your donation to honor one individual,
organization or theme. A Certificate in
honor or memory of the person
or organization will be sent you
if you
indicate
their name on the form.
You may, of
course,
send money in $68 increments as often
as
you like. The Club
with the greatest contribution
will be recognized at
the
2012 convention.
It just takes “cents” to make the “change”
and
save our National Forests
